FAQ
You've got Questions,
we’ve got the Answers.
Are microgreens the same as sprouts?
No, microgreens and sprouts are distinct. Sprouts encompass the entire germinated seed including its root system, while microgreens consist of just the young stem and leaf portions of seedlings. This later stage of the early developmental phase is when these plants contain their highest concentration of nutrients.
How do I use them?
Microgreens offer fresh, crisp textures with unique flavors. They work well both raw and incorporated into cooked meals, though it's typically better to incorporate them once cooking is complete. They make excellent garnishes for sandwiches, sausages, main courses, or broths. Try incorporating them into tacos, a perfect addition to any salad or use it as a regular ingredient in your blended drinks. Your creativity is the only boundary
How long will microgreens last in my refrigerator?
In our experience, microgreens will keep for about two weeks when refrigerated. Similar to other fresh produce you purchase, rinse them before eating, but only clean what you plan to consume immediately. For optimal storage life, microgreens should be kept dry and in cool conditions.
What are the health benefits of microgreens?
Microgreens offer several key health advantages: First, they provide exceptional nutritional density, serving as concentrated sources of essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Research shows they can contain up to 40 times more vitamins than mature plants, along with a wider variety of beneficial antioxidants. Second, microgreens are ideal for raw consumption, which preserves their nutritional value since cooking's high temperatures can break down important enzymes, vitamins, and plant compounds. Third, when delivered fresh to your home, we deliver maximum freshness. Plants begin losing nutrients immediately after harvest so minimum food miles can be important to getting the most out of your food!
Are microgreens safer than sprouts to eat and grow?
Actually yes. Microgreens present lower safety risks compared to sprouts when it comes to both consumption and cultivation. Sprouts carry higher potential for dangerous bacterial contamination such as E. coli because they require humid, warm growing conditions that also promote harmful bacterial development. The cultivation method for microgreens is considerably safer. Proper air circulation and ventilation significantly reduce bacterial establishment opportunities. Microgreens develop in open environments with excellent airflow and receive water through bottom irrigation, keeping foliage dry. This makes them a significantly safer alternative to sprouts.
